When looking at a sole photograph, follow the spaces between lugs as closely as the lugs themselves.

How to read a tread pattern
Transverse forefoot grooves can follow a flex line. Broader heel blocks form a different contact area. A photograph alone cannot establish grip. Assessment requires the chosen compound on the intended surface.
- Read forefoot and heel patterns separately.
- Match the sample to its intended surface.
